| Title: | Resource Wars; The New Landscape of Global Conflict |
| Place of Publication: | New York |
| Publisher: | Metropolitan Books |
| Year: | 2001 |
Summary:
Michael Klare argues, courageously, that most, if not all, wars of the post-Cold War period are caused by resource scarcity. He differs radically from Samuel Huntington's 1996 book, "Clash of Civilisations...", which claimed that today's wars are the result of deeply-entrenched cultural patterns. Where Huntington predicted continuing conflict along cultural fault lines, particularly West vs. East, Klare sees profit motive as the governing principle in recent conflicts, and the guide for decades to come. Klare makes compelling use of concrete examples to defend himself. His work garnered a June appearance at the Council on Foreign Relations, not typically a supporter of Klare's school of analysis.
