demand-side approaches to reducing violence

World Vision publications have consistently sought to demonstrate empirical linkages between integrated community development programmes and the promotion of cultures of solidarity. One particular example of this a remote district in Amhara region, Ethiopia. In addition to considerable socio-economic and environmental improvements achieved within the community, gun-related violence dramatically declined, in particulare between two rival tribes. This report by Siobhan Calthrop and Tibebe Eshete is a presentation of the compelling findings from research in that community.
